Summary
[edit]DescriptionCullowhee 1920s.JPG |
English: The Old Cullowhee Road area of Cullowhee in the 1920s. Nestled along a river, this area became home to the Painter store and Post Office in 1883, and commercial/residential development sprung up in the area. The Post Office became known as Cullowhee in 1908, and the old Cullowhee Post Office near Forest Hill was discontinued. The Painter Store and a neighboring store did well enough that in the 1920s they built new buildings. Currently the old Painter Store is the site of the Village Store, which is abandoned. |
