Description
English: Post Medieval silver cufflink element. A disc from one end of a cufflink. The disc has an angled rim. On the front is a raised design of a heart with a flame rising from the top and two arrows in saltire behind it. The raised design is surrounded by a stippled background within a raised circular line border. Corresponding recessed areas on the back suggest the design was stamped. Soldered to the centre of the rear is a circular sectioned wire loop. There is no visible makers mark.

Date: Post Medieval - c.  1650 - 1710
Dimensions: 13.00 mm x 4.68 mm
Weight: 1.72 g

Discussion: Many similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme Database and reported through the Treasure process, e.g.SOM - 312652 (2012 T631), SOM-5E1FC3 (2011 T609), SOM-5E2790 (2011 T610), ESS-BD57D3 (2010 T752), YORYM-2C3C87 (2011 T240) and ESS-0934B2 (2010 T570). They are dated to the late 17th century.

Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
