Polysorbate 80 and medical liquid paraffin were mixed and heated in a boiling bath of tap water. Water from the bath was added to the mixture and mixed thoroughly by pumping the mixture between two syringes connected by a piece of a hose. The opaque gel was put back in the flask and allowed to reheat and cool slowly in the water bath after turning off the heater plate.
