Summary
[edit]DescriptionCrystal Mill by Vicki Christensen.jpg |
English: The Crystal Mill (1892) is a wooden powerhouse built on a mining claim called "Lost Horse," perched on an outcropping over the Crystal River high in the Rocky Mountains. In its heyday, the town of Crystal, Colorado, had a population of more than 400. Now, Crystal is essentially a ghost town. In 2015, it was reported that less than 10 people lived there. The town is not accessible in winter. Crystal is only accessible in summer from Marble, Colorado, with four-wheel drive. Although it is called a "mill" it was a water turbine-powered compressor station constructed by Sheep Mountain Tunnel and Mining Company that supplied power to silver miners via the Sheep Mountain Tunnel. The Crystal Mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 1985. NRHP reference number: 85001493
