Description

The barrel vault ends with the representation of the Last Judgment according to the Apocalypse of John:
In the mandorla Christ, in majesty, raises his left hand open to signify that the hour of judgment has come, while his right hand points to the Lord in whose name the Son renders judgment. As a last resort for the resurrects, the Virgin and St. John the Baptist pray to implore clemency for the nobles and notables of the place who await their Judgment, below. Christ breaks the sword of righteousness with his teeth to signify that good has been separated from evil and that judgment has been rendered. St. Peter, who can be recognized by his golden and silver keys, can then lead the procession of the elect to the heavenly Jerusalem. The second death of the reprobate, thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, does not deserve to be depicted!...
