| Description |
Crowds gathered at the Cunard Pier 54 in New York where the Carpathia landed with survivors of the Titanic disaster. The ship arrived in the evening of April 18, having battled weather conditions along the way. News accounts say there were up to 40,000 people gathered at the pier waiting for Carpathia. It was not until the Carpathia arrived with the ship's crew and Titanic survivors that the extent of the disaster began to be known. |
| Date | April 1912-earliest date stamp is April 15, 1912. News story says the photo was taken at 7AM April 19. Since the Carpathia arrived the evening before, it's possible these people stayed around trying to get more news about the Titanic. |
