Description
English: A complete Post-Medieval copper-alloy cast spherical bell,dating to c. AD 1600 - 1800. The bell is complete and the pea remains. The bell comprises of two hemispheres, divided by a horizontal circumferential rib. The upper hemisphere is undecorated and has two circular sound holes.  At the top of the upper hemisphere is an integrally cast rectangular suspension loop with an arched as-cast aperture. The lower hemisphere is decorated with a cast "sunburst" pattern of radiating arched double stranded petals , each with a central vertical line. In side a double stranded semi-circular frame at the base of the petals are the letters 'D S', a makers mark. The opposing semi-circle is decorated with six radiating lines. A slightly corroded iron pea is inside the bell.
