| Description |
English: Crossing the Halfpenny Bridge This is the fourth bridge to be built on this site. The earliest dating back to 1830. Winter floods have swept the earlier ones away but the course of the river was altered in the 1960s and new flood defences were provided for the town.
Across the river you can see the cupola atop Barclays Bank. The building stands at the eastern end of the High Street https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/416913 and was originally built at the expense of Sarah Brisco to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. |
