Rand. Many turnshoes had rands; it is though they might serve a structural purpose, making the seam more robust. Later, welted-rand shoes superceeded turnshoes. Welted-rand shoes were sewn rightside-out and always havd a rand to sew the outsole to.
Cut edge of the heel stiffener, found in some turnshoes. Side of the heel stiffener can also be seen.
