Description
English: Cross of Alastair's Son. This is one of three similar cairns on the moorland just north of Trumpan. This one bears a very weathered plaque in English and Gaelic which reads: "Cross of Alastair's Son. To commemorate John MacLeod of Waternish who fell in the second battle of Waternish which was fought on this moor against the MacDonalds of Trotternish circa 1530. John was the son of Alastair Ruadh of Trumpan and second cousin of Alasdair Crotach - VIII Chief. Cairn restored by Clan MacLeod Society USA in consultation with Clan Macleod Heritage Trust. Robert MacGregor Clacher Fecit". See also 1725054.
