English: Cross above Doo Lough This cross standing by the R335 road to the south of Doo Lough is dedicated to the "Hungry Poor". The inscription on the base reads:
To commemorate the hungry poor who walked here in 1849 and walk the Third World today Freedom for South Africa 1994 "How can men feed themselves honoured by the humiliation of their fellow beings" Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa On another panel at the base, it reads: In 1991 we walked Afri's Great Famine walk at Doolough and soon afterwards we walked the road to freedom in South Africa Archbishop Desmond Tutu |
