Notes Riding crop belonged to Capt. Thomas Arnold Blake who was official vet looking after the horses of Mounted Special Constables during the 1913 Auckland Waterfront Strike, and later served with the NZ Veterinary Corps in Sinai-Palestine and on the Western Front during WW1 Thomas Arnold Blake (1882-1966) was a member of the Rangoon Vol. Rifles from 1906. By 1913 he was living in New Zealand and tended horses of the Special Constables camped in the Auckland Domain during the 1913 Waterfront Strike, probably as an employee of the Department of Agriculture. During WW1 he enlisted as a Captain in the New Zealand Veterinary Corps (Service no 13-637) embarking with the Main Body. He served as an official veterinarian in the 1NZEF in France and Egypt- initially as a member of the Veterinary Corps attached to the Auckland Mounted Rifles in Egypt and Palestine, and later on the Western Front. On 29 August 1915, while in Egypt, he married Mabel Deane. Post-WW1 TA Blake served in the Territorial Army as Major.
