ition. Theseislands are all owned by the Government. Point Labose is six miles w est. Fort Point is northwest from the CityHall, five miles at the south end of GoldenGate. It is the most heavily fortified onthe coast—on the plan of Fort Sumter, inSouth Carolina. Telegraph Hill, to the north, is 394feet high. KussiAN Hill is 360 feet high. Clay St. Hill is 376 feet high. The Twin Peaks, four miles southwest,rise 1,200 feet. The visitor can obtainfrom the summit of these peaks a fine viewof the whole country for many milesaround the Golden Gate, and the GreatPacific Ocean. Ferry-boats run regularly between SanFrancisco and Oakland, Alameda, SanQuentin, Berkley, Sancelito. The general office of the Central andSouthern Pacific railroad companies iscor.
