gswill be taken up, a narrow gauge railroadlaid down, hotels built, and one of thefinest w^atering places in the worldopened to the public. Fish of many kinds, and beavers, areabundant in the streams; the beaverserecting dams often six feet high. Themountains and forests are full of game, andin them and the open valleys can be foundelk, deer, antelope, bears, mountain sheepand lions, and, occasionally, the bison ormountain buflalo. The forests are dense and large in extent;from which, during the building of theroad, large quantities of ties were cut andfloated down the river to Fort Steele. Thevalleys are fertile and large, and all in all,it is a grand, wild country, where the tour-ist could enjoy life to his hearts content,in hunting, fishing, andflghting the Indians. Crrennville—is a small side-trackstation 8 4-10 miles west of Fort Steele, andit is seven miles further to Raivlin^—(usually called BawlingSprings). This place contains a populationof about 800. The Railroad Company employlyO men. The surrounding country is rough andbroken, covered with sage-brush andflecked with alkali. Close above the towna fine sulphur spring rises from under thebed of blue limestone, and other springsarise from the surface of a narrow, wetravine, which extends about a mile abovethe town. The bed of the ravine, as far asthe w^ater extends, is white with alkali,where the pools of stagnant water do notcover it. From 30 to 40 miles to the northeast ofthis station, are located the Ferris andSeminole mining districts. The ore is sil-ver, and said by some people to be veryrich. Several mills are in operation, andothers will soon be erected. Coal, woodand water is abundant near the mines, andprospects are bright for the future of thedistrict.
