Description

O Cristo Redentor é uma estátua de Jesus Cristo localizada na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Está localizada no topo do morro do Corcovado, a 709 metros acima do nível do mar. De seus 38 metros, oito estão no pedestal. Foi inaugurado às 19:15 do dia 12 de outubro de 1931, depois de cerca de cinco anos de obras. Um símbolo do cristianismo, a estátua se tornou um dos ícones mais reconhecidos internacionalmente de ambos Rio e Brasil. No dia 7 de Julho de 2007, em Lisboa, no Estádio da Luz, foi eleita uma das novas sete maravilhas do mundo. ___________________________________

Christ the Redeemer (Portuguese: O Cristo Redentor), is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The statue stands 40 meters (130 feet tall) weighs 700 tons(635 tonnes), and is located at the peak of the 700 m (2,296 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city. It is the tallest of its kind in the world. Its coordinates are 22°57'5.64"S, 43°12'38.75"W. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone.

A symbol of Christianity, the statue has become an icon of Rio and Brazil.
