Description
English: Crews are using a crane to place a 54-foot steel pipe into the ground to auger out dirt to build the underground support system for the new I-85 North bridge over the Yadkin River.

The next step is to place a reinforced steel tube into the hole and fill it with concrete.

Crews started in February 2011 and will build 160 underground columns in this manner over the next five months - 80 for the northbound bridge and 80 for the southbound bridge.
