Summary
[edit]DescriptionCrescent Lens Flare.jpg |
English: The crescent lens flare, as seen here, is a phenomenon that can only be witnessed during a solar eclipse. Lens flares from sunlight are usually round, only because that is the shape of the light source. The great American solar eclipse of 2017 renewed in many a healthy curiosity in the mechanisms of the natural world despite the current anti-science political climate in the U.S. One of which is the behavior of sunlight on earth. During a solar eclipse the shape of the omnipresent solar light source changes and by forming pinholes with our hands we can see the eclipse progress as shadow on the ground (same as the lens flare). These and others were the little experiments people conducted during the eclipse everywhere, including the top of Strawberry Mountain in central Oregon were this picture was taken. Around 300 people of all ages and works of life came together to witness the eclipse from this promontory and were in awe of the science behind it.
