DescriptionCreeton Interlace Fragments.jpg |
Badly eroded sections of Anglo-Saxon interlace, possibly pieces of a number of cross-shafts, built into the walls of St Peter's church, Creeton, Lincolnshire, UK. There are many more fragments in the walls, as well as a freestanding, rather crudely carved, section of cross-shaft that has been re-used as a grave marker (see Anglo-Saxon cross shaft grave marker.jpg). There is also a fine example of an Anglo-Saxon, Mid Kesteven type of grave cover (now standing upright – see Saxon Stone West Face.jpg) in the churchyard. These fragments are mentioned but do not appear in CRSBI (The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland). |
