Summary
[edit]DescriptionCraven Arms October morning-Shropshire (geograph 4926200).jpg |
English: Craven Arms October morning-Shropshire On Craven Arms station on this October morning, looking southwards. This station opened on the 21st April 1852 and in July 1879 was renamed 'Craven Arms and Stokesay'. It reverted to 'Craven Arms' in May 1974. After World War I service and working for Mr and Mrs Greene of the Grove Estate, my late grandfather Richard Coles started working on this railway as a member of a maintenance gang. He was also a member of a local dance band, Hamilton's Band, in which he was saxophone player. To the south of this station is the junction of the Welsh Marches line to Hereford and the Heart of Wales line through villages and towns on its way to Swansea. The station is now owned and services run by Arriva Trains Wales. For a detailed history of the station and the associated branches the website 'Disused Stations Site Record' by Nick Catford and Roy Lambeth is worth a visit for a detailed explanation of its history. Time taken 9.30 am BST (British Summer Time). |
