Summary

[edit]
Description A crashed U.S. Navy Grumman C-1A Trader off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CVS-12), in 1967. The Trader made an approach to the carrier on only one engine but failed to engage an arresting wire. Following the unsucessful landing attempt, the single running engine could not provide enough power for another landing attempt and the aircraft crashed. The crew was rescued by a helicopter. Hornet, with assigned Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 57 (CVSG-57), was deployed to the Western Pacific and Vietnam from 28 May to 28 October 1967.
