La courbe bleue clair est tirée du texte de Rouse et McNown titré :"Cavitation and pressure distribution, Head forms at zero angle of yaw" [1].
Les distributions des pressions mesurées en tunnel hydraulique sur divers corps (dont ce corps hémisphéro-cylindrique) par Rouse et McNown en 1948 font toujours autorité de nos jours. L'intégration de cette distribution des pressions sur le corps hémisphéro-cylindrique a permis à S. F. Hoerner de lui calculer un très faible Cx de pression : 0,01. Cependant Koenig et Roshko écrivent dans "An experimental study of geometrical effects on the drag and flow field of two bluff bodies separated by a gap" [2] archive copy at the Wayback Machine : "Le Cx de pression [du corps hémisphéro-cylindrique] est cependant certainement plus faible que 0,01 et peut-être aussi bas que 0,004."
La partie avant de la distribution des pressions sur l'hémisphère du tube de Pitot est évidemment proche de celle sur la sphère isolée. Cependant, contrairement au cas de la sphère, l'écoulement n'est pas accéléré par l'anticipation d'un rétreint (comme celui que constitue l'hémisphère arrière de la sphère) : la dépression maximale est donc moins marquée.
La courbe bleu dense (la plus près de l'axe des nuls) est due à Ower et Johansen ("The design of Pitot-Static Tubes", ARC R and M 981, 1925) ; elle concerne également un tube de Pitot hémisphéro-cylindrique mais se place un peu plus près de l'axe que les relevés de Rouse et McNown. On trouve cette courbe dans "Review of the Pitot tube" de R. G. Folsom, Universtité du Michigan, [3] mais elle est citée également dans le rapport AGARD-AR-245 de 1990.
Ces pourcentages indiquent l'erreur d'une mesure de la pression statique sur le cylindre à l'abscisse considérée. On remarque qu'à 3D de distance du point d'arrêt, l'erreur cette mesure est réduite à 1%. Prandtl lui-même recommandait de placer les prises de pression statique à 3D du point d'arrêt (il est vrai sur la foi de la distribution des pressions sur le demi-corps 3D de Rankine).
La courbe fuchsia représente la pression statique mesurée en amont du corps hémisphéro-cylindrique à 0° par Letko (mesures relayée par Gracey dans MEASUREMENT OF STATIC PRESSURE ON AIRCRAFT, by William Gracey, NACA RM L57A09 [4].
Letko, dans "INVESTIGATION OF THE FUSELAGE INTERFERENCE ON A PITOT-STATIC TUBE EXTENDING FORWARD FROM THE NOSE OF THE FUSELAGE", by William Letko, NACA TECHNICAL NOTE No. 1496 [5] relate ses mesures de la pression statique en avant du corps hémisphéro-cylindrique. Il s'est approché jusqu'à 0,14 diamètres du point d'arrêt de ce corps (Cp mesuré : 0,71). La courbe en tiretés longs est une prolongation logique de la courbe jusqu'au point d'arrêt et son Cp unitaire.
