[edit]DescriptionCoyote Creek Cascade (6032012219).jpg |
I saw this scene in March 2007 in a brochure for Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and I set out to go and photograph it. At the Interagency Visitor Center in Escalante, the ranger told me that it was in Coyote Gulch. So, in August of that year, I made a day hike into the gulch, going upstream from the creek's confluence with the Escalante River. It was to be a 12-hour hike, and after six hours I would turn around and retrace my steps in order to be back at the truck by dark. I never saw this little cascade. Last week I hiked the rest of the gulch, starting at the Redwell trailhead and heading downstream. I found the cascade about a tenth of a mile upstream of my turnaround point in 2007. It looks better when more water is flowing in the creek, but you get what you get. I was glad to have found it. |
