Description

NRCS South Dakota is interested in research on cropping systems technologies. Photos show an experiment happening this summer with the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Brookings.

They are evaluating shade tolerant vegetation species planted as a cover crop at V5 in a corn field. It will be interesting to track development to see how it survives and whether could provide forage for livestock after corn harvest later in the season. Aside from forage value, there are quite a few other benefits of planting cover crops in corn.
