Summary
[edit]DescriptionCourse of Roman Road - geograph.org.uk - 1397961.jpg |
English: Course of Roman Road Connecting London to Lewes the road branched off Watling Street near Peckham and headed south serving the iron works of the Weald and the corn growing regions next to the South Downs. At this point the road forded the River Ouse and was deemed an important crossing for both a motte and bailey earthwork to be located on the east bank as well as the original site of the village of Isfield. |
