AIM AND SCOPE The School has as its chief object the preparation of boys forthe colleges and the scientific schools, but provides training alongengineering and business lines for those who do not expect toenter college. The work of the School is divided into the followingdepartments: 1. Preparatory. The work is offered in three courses,designated, respectively, the Harvard Course, the TechnologyCourse and the General Preparatory Course. The subjects inthe first two courses are largely determined by the entrancerequirements to Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology. A large part of the General Preparatory Courseis elective. A student then is able, by proper election, to complywith the entrance requirements of a school or college, or pursuevocational subjects if he wishes to enter upon his career whenhe completes the course.

2. Grammar.—The work of the four upper grades isoffered. The courses are arranged to suit the needs of thosewho expect to pursue a preparatory, a technical, or a businesscourse in the upper school. 3. Technical.—A number of finishing courses along engi-neering lines are provided for those who expect to enter re-munerative work upon completing any one of them. 4. Business.—Courses in Bookkeeping and Shorthandwith allied subjects covering two, three and four years areoffered for those who wish to enter schools of Business Adminis-tration or follow business pursuits upon completing one of thecourses. Each department is in charge of an expert whose functionit is to provide for the special needs of the students under him. In certain respects, each one of these departments is aseparate school.
