Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Country path on a disused railway track. The single track railway originally ran between Sunderland and the point 1/2 km South West where it joined a main railway line and on to Durham. The line had a long history starting with a wagonway in 1737. For more information see:

http://www.lambtonlocomotivestrust.co.uk/History2.htm The line was closed in the 1960s and later converted to a path / bridleway.

The barriers are to deter the local TWOCers (TWOC = taking without consent = car theft, usually followed by setting the vehicle on fire after a joyride).
