Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Counterscarp Rooms, Newhaven Fort These rooms, 60 feet underground, were build to provide access to gun emplacements which were designed to provide cover for the moat area. In 1946 a party was held here and men from the local Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron painted the walls. Two motor boats can be seen on the right of the picture. The rooms have no lights and are in complete darkness so the picture was taken by using a torch to work out where to shoot and then a flash - hoping that the camera was pointing at the right place!
