The hennin reached its height of popularity inevery sense of the word in the reign of Edward V.Briefly it may be described as a lawn kerchiefstiffened with canes or wires, these kerchiefs beingplain or diapered with gold, the frame projectingoutward from the back of the head, and beneathit the hair is gathered up into a caul of gold orembroidery. The original hennin was a tallfunnel-shaped tube in brocade worked in beads andfixed firmly on the head, and from the top floateda fine veil.
