Notes | Childs crepe paper 'rosebud' fancy dress worn by Sheila Hollinger (nee Miller) when she was 2-3 years old. Her family lived in Taranaki and purchased the costume by mail order from George Court and Sons, Karangahape Road, Auckland, circa 1928 These costumes were apparently made to order, and were handstitched. Crepe paper costumes were popular in the first half of the 20th century. Dennisons Manufacturing Co, a US company that produced paper products including crepe paper, was a major promoter of crepe paper fancy dress costumes, especially for Halloween - In the 1920s the company published several books with instructions for making attractive and affordable paper costumes, and helped popularise the use of crepe paper. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
