Title
Cosmetic nail cleaner of Roman date
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy cosmetic nail cleaner of Roman date. It is missing the lower half of the blade and the top of the suspension loop due to old breaks. The blade is flat, leaf-shaped in form, undecorated and tapers towards the now missing tip. At the top is an integral suspension loop that is flat, oval in form, set at 90 degrees to the plane of the blade and missing its outer edge due to old breaks. This object measures 43.15mm in length, 7.63mm in width at plate, 1.57mm in thickness, and weighs 1.69g.

This is a worn and incomplete Roman cosmetic nail cleaner. The use of a leaf shaped blade with suspension loop at right angles to the blade indicates it belongs in Crummy's Type 2a nail cleaners (Crummy, 1983: pp. 58, no. 1874). This indicates a date range in the 1st to 2nd centuries for the current example.
