En la constelación de CORVUS, o del Cuervo de forma de un trapecio irregular, el objeto celeste más relevante es la nebulosa planetaria NGC 4361 situada a unos 4300 años luz de distancia, de color azulado siendo la estrella central de una magnitud aparente de +12,8 liberando gas y materia hacia el exterior de la misma conformando tal nebulosa. El nombre de “nebulosa planetaria”, sus desc ubridores en principio (S. XVIII), creían que era una nebulosa de gas y polvo donde se formaban planetas, de ahí “planetaria”. Hoy se sabe que no es así. Como se explicó anteriormente el gas que rodea a la estrella central es producto de la liberación de las capas externas de una gigante roja en extinción, es decir en sus últimas etapas de vida, produciendo tales emisiones de gases y materia estelar. Tales nebulosas son del tipo de emisión, o sea de expansión de plasma y de gas ionizado. Se la puede resolver en noches claras sin Luna llena y con un pequeño telescopio o unos buenos binoculares, observándose una pequeña mancha. Desde nuestras latitudes (-37º), ALFA CORVUS se la ve pasar por el meridiano del lugar (culminación superior) a una altura aproximadamente de 77,5º y observando hacia el horizonte Norte. Ver la tabla de la hora de paso de la estrella inserta en la imagen. Esta altura y horario es aproximado para la costa bonaerense y el litoral argentino. NOMBRES Y SIGNIFICADOS DE LAS ESTRELLAS: ALCHIBA (Alfa Corvus). Del árabe: al-Khiba, significa "la tienda", designación primitiva de la constelación. Estrella amarillenta. TSO HEA (Beta Corvus) . Del chino. Estrella blanca. GIENAH (Gama Corvus). Del árabe: Janah al-Ghureb al-Aman, "el ala derecha del cuervo". Estrella blanca. ALGORAB (Delta Corvus). Del árabe: al-Ghurab, "el cuervo". Estrella de color amarillo-anaranjado. Tiene una compañera a unos 20" de separación. TCHIN (Epsilon Corvus). Del chino. Estrella anaranjada.
