[edit]DescriptionCorrea reflexa (peganum) 001.jpg |
Another one I collected myself in Tasmania. It's one of the common green forms found all over SE Aus and has a quiet charm. Winter flowering. Unaffected by bad weather to -10C in winter 2008-9. I brought all these rooted cuttings into the UK in February 1991, direct from Sydney where we'd stopped over. The poor things had had to have all the soil washed from their roots to comply with plant hygeine regulations and were all there in their little freezer bags in a shoe box. This was at about 3am and the customs man at Gatwick took one look at them, said 'it's all Greek to me' and let us through. They could have been anything. The Grevillea victoriae, Richea pandanifolia and Nothofagus gunnii didn't stand a chance, going from a southern summer direct into a northern winter (the latter two suffered most I suspect from the heat rather than the cold) but the Correas took it in their stride and are still going strong. |
