Summary
[edit]DescriptionCorning Museum of Glass - 20220412 - 25 - Various early 20th century French and German Art Nouveau glassware.jpg |
English: Displayed in this exhibit at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York is a selection of European Art Nouveau glassware, a style popular around the turn of the 20th century that expanded on Romanticism and the Arts and Crafts movement to find inspiration in natural forms, with asymmetry, curvilinear forms, vibrant colors, and floral and botanical motifs among the distinguishing characteristics. The École de Nancy in France, where all but one of these items were manufactured, was a main hotbed of Art Nouveau glass design. (The exception is the vase second from left, the work of French-born, German-based artist Désiré Jean-Baptiste Christian.) As seen in the "35 Centuries of Glass" gallery during an April 2022 visit to the museum. |
