Summary
[edit]DescriptionCorn Kiln (^) - geograph.org.uk - 721174.jpg |
English: Corn Kiln (?) This circular stone structure on the side of Mochrum Fell looks like it may have been♦ a corn kiln - if so, it was possibly built sometime between the mediaeval period and the 18th century for drying grain for storage. A fire would be lit at the end of a flue at ground level and the heat drawn up through the damp grain in the centre of the structure. These structures are more common in the damper western areas of Britain. |
