Description
English: I received this plant from the daughter of an old employer - Ed Carman (Carman's Nursery of Los Gatos, now closed). She was not sure what it was and had brought to a horticultural meeting to get opinions.

Beyond suspicion that it was a Cordyline species, there was no firm ID from those assembled. She ended up letting me take it home (it was one of many that Ed had grown from seed before he died). I was delighted to have it (because it was a project of Ed's).

It has been a bit slow to gain size, but now seems to be gaining speed more quickly. I've been growing it a bit on the dry side. At first it seemed to want to be vertical, but then started to lilt heavily to the side. Then the growing point split into two and it was clear a flower spike was forming in between them! That spike is probably 1m+ long and the flower are lightly fragrant.

Seems to me that it must be a form of Cordyline banksii. Ed was known to be trialling several New Zealand species from seed from one of his many contacts. I welcome others' opinions.
