KOR-dee-uh -- named for Valerius Cordus, 16th century German botanist seb-ess-TAY-nuh -- from Persian sapistan, name of allied species grown around Sebesta

commonly known as: aloe wood, geranium tree , largeleaf geigertree, orange geiger tree, scarlet cordia, sea trumpet, sebesten plum tree, Spanish cordia, Texas olive, ziricote Bengali: kamla buhal, raktarag • Hindi: लाल लसोड़ा lal lasora, bohari • Kannada: challekendala • Tamil: அச்சிநறுவிலி accinayuvili

Origin: Florida Keys, the West Indies, and northern South America

... practically throughout the year the clusters of brilliant, bell-like flowers, scattered amongst the deep foliage, gladden our eyes with their rich hue - a clear, true scarlet. Each blossom is about 2 inches across.

A finely pleated tube is inserted neatly into a long olive-brown, felt calyx. The tube opens out into six rounded petals, deeply crinkled and pleated. Up to a dozen blooms may be found in one close cluster.
