Summary
[edit]DescriptionCorapolis Railroad Station 2007.jpg |
"What was one pristinely crystalline day, more or less, in the doleful, enervating cue of days stretching back into his callow, shallow, hallowed youth, bulging with false promise, ponderous with grandiose schemes, brittle with clear-minded cynicism; when she did not appear, has not appeared, will not appear, will not have appeared; mocking his vigilance at the hip-roofed, roman-bricked, sandstone water-tabled depot of his archly forgettable dreams?" Above is additional description for It Was A Dark And Stormy Night Pool The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie was an important regional railroad for passenger and freight. The P&LE participated in the nineteenth century practice of railroads to erect arichtecturally superior and attractive rail stations - often elaborately landscaped. The practice was pioneered by the Boston & Albany with H H Richardson & Frederick Law Olmstead. This is one of five of the remaining stations with particular appeal - the group being in various states of repair. In Coraopolis, Allegheny County, this structure, along with Glassport and Beaver, was designed by Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge - successors to Richardson. A community group is attempting to stabilize and renovate it as a community center. It is along the Ohio River. |
