Title
Copper alloy razor handle
Description
English: Cast solid copper-alloy end-cap from a knife handle, in the shape of an animal's head. The underside of the end-cap has a narrow slot for the tang. Within this slot there is a rectangular section strip of corroded iron work. The lower part of the end-cap, nearest to the end of the tang, is oval in section and this forms the neck of the animal. On the top of the head, at the back, is a depression which may have been intended to form the gap between two ears. There is a projecting muzzle (or beak?) but features such as eyes are not picked out. The end-cap is small; the length from base of neck to top of head is 14 mm, and from back of neck to tip of muzzle is 12 mm. The end stop is similar to one recorded in Suffolk by the PAS (SF5164)
