Title
Copper alloy mount - underside
Description
English: A copper alloy mount. The mount consists of a rectangular plate which is stepped to provide a raised rectangular cell at its centre. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with stamped decoration; at each corner of the plate is a stamped ring; between these rings are stamped crescental decoration. The raised central plate has four stamped circles arranged in a cross shape. The underside of the plate is undecorated. At two of the corners (diagonally opposite each other) are rectangular section tapering shafts, bent over at right angles. The mount measures 23.47mm square. The date of the mount is uncertain; although it is similar to Roman mounts, the fastening mechanism is more characteristic of post medieval finds.
