Copper alloy dragonesque brooch
Description
English: A copper alloy dragonesque brooch, dating to the first or second centuries AD and possibly East Brigantian in type. The brooch consists of a cast S shaped plate, whilst the underside is flat and plain.
The upper surface has two decoration types - moulded and openwork.
The central ornamentation of the brooch consists of a boss within a lozenge formed by two stylised trumpets.
Each of the terminals has an 'ear' and 'eye', the eye being represented by a small raised boss with circumferential rib. The pin is missing. The brooch measures 51mm in length and has a maximum width of 25mm.
