Title |
Copper alloy double-looped composite asymmetrical buckle 1575 - 1700 AD. |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy double-looped composite asymmetrical buckle 1575 - 1650AD . The buckle has one straight side and one rounded (D shaped) loop on either side of a central bar. The strap bar is short so the frame has a slight trapezoidal appearance which is only seen on buckles produced after 1575. These buckles were used for a number of purposes including fastening spurs, waistbelts or baldricks. The buckle was probably afor attaching a spur which was part of normal outdoor dress in the 17th century. Similar to No.560 on p.90 in Whitehead. Buckles 1200 - 1800. 2003. Greenlight Publishing. Witham. Essex. The length is 27mm, and the width is 22mm. |
