Title
Copper alloy book clasp
Description
English:

Copper alloy book clasp. This example is rectangular in plan, with a flaring split end decorated in a feather motif with three stamped circular holes above. The hook is semi-cylindrical and 8mm in width and flanked by two small rectangular knops. In the centre is a series of concentric rings. There is evidence for three copper alloy rivets, two at the base and one near the hook, this example still retains the backing plate on the underside. Artefacts such as this have been discovered during excavation to predominately date to the 15th and 17th centuries such as the examples found in York (Ottaway & Rogers, 2002, 2937-2939)
