Title
Copper alloy Romano-British finger ring inscribed 'ToT'.
Description
English: Large copper alloy finger ring. The ring has a circular bezel and wide tapering shoulders. The shoulders are D-shaped in cross-section.

The bezel is highly decorative and bears the inscription TOT within a pelleted border. The upper and lower bars of both 'T's are concave and have three pellets at each terminal. The letter 'o' is shown in the lower case and has a pellet in the centre. The perimeter of the hoop is decorated with a row of pellets, and another row runs down the centre of the hoop. Either side of this centre line is a row of semi-circles with three-pellet terminals, identical to the terminals seen on the letters 'T'.

The inscription 'ToT' is an abbreviation of the Celtic god Toutatis, or 'Totatis' as he is better known in Britain. The series of finger rings bearing this inscription is distinctively Romano-British and are found especially in Lincolnshire. The majority of finger rings are found in the territory of the Corieltauvi, which covered parts of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire south of the River Trent.
