Title
Copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch
Description
English: A copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch, dating to the first or second centuries AD. The bow is oval in section and extends to the characteristic mid bow disc and acanthus leaf mouldings. The leg is triangular in section and tapers to end in a cylindrical flat based foot knob. The head is trumpet shaped and hollow, concealing the spring mechanism. The swivelling chain loop and loop clip survive. The loop clip is marginally grooved with a central knurled rib. The pin is missing. The catchplate is damaged. The brooch measures 50mm in length, the head 15mm in width and mid bow 9mm in width.
