||
Description |
English: An unusual copper alloy Roman plate brooch dating to the second century. The brooch comprises a flat oval zoomorphic head with two circular cells, which would originally have contained enamel.On the underside of the brooch is a semi-circular lug with circular perforation. Below these cells, there is a fragment of a lozengiform openwork plate. A similar brooch (No. 1125) is illustrated in 'A visual Catalogue of Richard Hattatt's Ancient Brooches'. The brooch measures 28mm in length and has a maximum width of 17mm. |
