Title
Copper alloy 'D' shaped single looped buckle with a narrowed and offset strap bar dating between 1250 to 1450 AD.
Description
English: Copper alloy 'D' shaped single looped buckle with a narrowed and offset strap bar dating between 1250 to 1450 AD. This would have provided a tidier fit for the buckle plate. It is likely that the buckles were mainly used on personal dress, and this is reflected in the greater ornamentation of the buckles in this group. Some have lobed or knopped mouldings at either end of the strap bar, or were fitted with elaborately worked buckle plate. This object is similar to an example in Whitehead, R. 2003. Buckles. P.19, NO 54. The length is 13mm, width 10mm, thickness 2mm and the weight is 1g.
