Copper alloy 'D' shaped buckle with sheet pin and roller
Description
English: A cast, copper alloy sub-rectangular buckle dating from AD1350-1400. The buckle has a narrowed and offset strap bar and a broad outer edge recessed to take a sheet alloy roller, which remains in place. The sheet alloy pin also survives. The buckle is 24mm long, 21.6mm wide and 9.1mm thick. It weighs 6.57gm. Similar buckles are illustrated in Whitehead, 2003, Buckles 1250-1800, page 27, numbers 138 & 140.
