Title
Copper-alloy Tweezers
Description
English: Copper-alloy tweezers formed of a single strip of sheet metal which has been bent into the required shape. The artefact weighs 4.66g and has a rectangular cross-section. The strip is 4.57mm wide and 1.50mm thick. The tweezers are c.57.00mm long so the strip would have been just in excess of c.114.00mm before being shaped to form the tweezers. The top of the tweezers, mid point of the strip, is curved into an oval loop. The internal dimensions of this loop are 3.53mm (length) x 2.68mm (width). At the base of the loop the two parts of the sheet meet briefly before separating again to form the arms which continue with parallel sides and undecorated surfaces to the slightly inturned nibs. The artefact has sustained later damage and is now bent approximately halfway along the arms. These tweezers are difficult to date precisely but fit within a date range of Roman to Medieval.

Many examples of tweezers can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, just a few of which are listed below: NCL-0D2983, LIN-9546A0, LIN-A47791, LEIC-3ED123, LIN-606FD8, KENT-AE3F67 & CAM-F31A95.
