Date supplied by cataloger based on similar item in collection.; Title supplied by cataloger from similar item in collection.; Abdalian identifier no. 3064; 3; Here were buried Increase Mather 1723, Cotton Mather 1728, Samuel Mather 1785, Andrew Eliot 1778. Thomas Lake, David Copp, Nicholas Upshall, John Phillips, Anthony Haywood, John Clarke. It contains the tomb of the Edmund Hart, builder of "Old Ironsides," ad many other noted men of the colonial period. On this ground were planted the British batteries which destroyed the village of Charlestown during the Battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775. The burying ground is surrounded by Salem, Hull, Snowhill, and Charter Streets, in the background the "Old North Church," can be seen. |
