Description

No claustro, os azulejos, representativos do "ciclo dos mestres", ilustram a vida de D. Frei Aleixo de Menezes (1559-1617), constituindo provavelmente, o maior conjunto de azulejos historiados do século XVIII, com uma narrativa única, de todo o país. D. Aleixo promoveu muito as obras deste convento, de que foi prior em 1588 e durante três anos. Posteriormente foi Arcebispo de Gôa, Arcebispo de Braga, Governador da Índia, Vice-rei de Portugal, Presidente do Conselho Supremo do Reino e Capelão-mor de Filipe II. Durante a sua passagem pelo convento escreveu uma biografia sobre S. Gonçalo de Lagos.
